Press release

GERARD MAS
“Everything in its right Place”

3 Punts Galeria is pleased to present the new solo exhibition by sculptor Gerard Mas (Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Gerona, 1976). In this exhibition we can see the last works by Mas, about fifteen sculptures made in different materials such as alabaster, ceramics, wood, terracotta and industrial resin.

The creative universe of Mas is latent in this exhibition, where we can contemplate sculptures that represent different figures such as his amazing decontextualized Renaissance ladies, domestic animals, a life-size woman-sarcophagus, a young maternal lady cradling a puppy dog, some birds that walk among human heads and some references to universal artists like Calder or Damien Hirst.

In all his artworks, Gerard Mas searches for formal perfection, while anachronism and subtle irony permeate his work and are the keys to his uniqueness. His influences come from the Renaissance, Egyptian and contemporary art, and it is partly this mixture of elements that belong to different registers or times that challenges the viewer making him enter a world where everything seems possible, because in the eyes of the observer, that which is "rare" becomes feasible and that which is temporary becomes timeless.

In this formal perfectionism that we talked about, the pictorial part is essential because the artworks that are painted in a conventional way or using fire as a pictorial element are surprisingly real and credible, thus nuancing anachronism, which leads us to think about the temporality of everything and the short space of time that our existence represents in the infinite line of the eternal.
