DREAMING AWAKE - OKUDA SAN MIGUEL
Press release
Dreaming Awake presents a new universe created by Okuda San Miguel, where his geometric shapes, textures, and colors serve as bridges between the physical and the digital, the visible and the emotional, figuration and abstraction, the dreamlike and the real.
This universe invites us—through experimentation with new materials, techniques, and figures—to explore new sensations and deeper emotional states.
African indigenous cultures, queer aesthetics, the digital universe, and artificial intelligence inspire the artist in this new phase to shape a personal and experimental imaginary where the ancestral and the futuristic come together.
With Dreaming Awake, the Cantabrian artist transcends the boundaries of reality through a unique symbolism, offering a reflection on emotions, feelings, identity, and diversity.
CV - Biography:
Santander - 1980
The urban artist Okuda has a degree in Fine Arts from the Complutense University of Madrid. Since his beginnings in 1997, his works on roads and abandoned factories in his hometown were clearly recognizable. Parallel to his works in the street, Okuda also began to produce more intimate works in his studio, with which from 2009 he evolved towards a more personal path. Geometric structures and multicolored prints come together with gray bodies and organic forms in artistic pieces that could be categorized as Pop Surrealism with a clear essence of the street.
His works often pose contradictions about existentialism, the universe, infinity, the meaning of life, the false freedom of capitalism, and show a clear conflict between modernity and our roots; in short, between the human being and himself. His works can be seen in streets and galleries all over the world: India, Mali, Mozambique, United States, Japan, Chile, Brazil, Peru, South Africa, Mexico and the entire European continent.
