Alejandro Monge
Press release
As a starting point, Alejandro Monge presents a reflection on destruction as a new form of creation. Busts invaded by contemporary classical elements, still lives in flames in the purest baroque style or iconic objects that mirror current affairs. With this, Monge presents an eclectic exhibition where different techniques and materials come together giving rise to an unusual aesthetic.
The exhibition “History Ashes” presents more that twenty works by Alejandro Monge. Presiding over the room we find a law-breaking homage to the ecstasy of Saint Teresa which conveys much more than realism. Alabaster, lacquered steel, porcelain, resins ... are mixed homogeneously leading to technical and aesthetically complex works: from a canvas measuring more that two meters to real scale hand grenades carved in stone. An exhibition of contrasts that will leave no one indifferent.
3 Punts Gallery is pleased to present for the first time in Barcelona “History Ashes”, the first solo exhibition of Alejandro Monge in the Catalan capital. The Aragonese artist explores his particular aesthetic to show an exotic and decadent image of the history of Europe. He uses a variety of techniques and styles to give rise to a careful and detailed body of work where not everything is what it seems. Unique still lives seen through smoke and ashes, unusual objects and classical sculptures keep balance on dozens of arrows that destroy them. The artist presents his particular language without shyness: hyperrealism with street art influences or baroque classics reinterpreted with a conceptual art approach make “History Ashes” an original and irreverent show difficult to label. Only 27 years old, Monge shows his technical mastery and versatility, a fresh and uninhibited vision of the current state of affairs.
